There’s a name on the shirts of East Dunbartonshire Football Club’s 2017s (EDFC) youngsters which local people may not be familiar with yet – but soon will.

Bishopbriggs Crematorium is currently being built and is due to open this winter.

It is being developed by Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 40 other facilities across England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Bishopbriggs Crematorium will be Westerleigh’s fourth Scottish site, joining Borders Crematorium, Stirlingshire Crematorium and West Lothian Crematorium.

All Westerleigh Group’s sites regularly make donations and provide support to local charities and organisations.

And while Bishopbriggs Crematorium itself is not open yet, Westerleigh Group was keen to start building positive relationships with the communities surrounding the new site.

EDFC was formed in 2002 and caters for youngsters aged from four to under-17 level.

Westerleigh Group is supporting the EDFC 2017s, who have four teams of six boys.

Gordon Paterson, from the club, said: “The support of businesses with local links is essential.

“The cost of new kit and equipment, along with the ever-rising costs of pitch hire is an enormous pressure on clubs and families.

“We try to keep costs as low as possible and ensure that sponsorship, fundraising and donations play their part to help keep football open to all, regardless of their financial circumstances.

“EDFC is a fantastic asset to the local community and any donations or funds raised are reinvested, not only to keep costs to parents as low as possible but to also enable us to offer youngsters opportunities to enjoy a great experience and hopefully develop many skills that will help them in later life.

“We’re very grateful to Westerleigh Group for their support.”

Bishopbriggs Crematorium is being built mid-way between Bishopbriggs and Kirkintilloch and will provide a peaceful and beautiful setting for families to mourn, commemorate and celebrate the lives of their loved ones.

Donnie Connor, Divisional Operations Manager for Westerleigh Group in Scotland said: “Once our new crematorium is open, we will look to support many other charities and organisations like EDFC, which make such a positive difference to the lives of local people.

“We are very much looking forward to serving people from the communities in and around the Greater Glasgow area and bringing the exceptional level of care and standards that Westerleigh Group is known for, to them.”

Ed Lane, Managing Director of Crematoria and Cemeteries at Westerleigh Group added: “Our commitment to exceptional care extends beyond our services and it is a privilege to be able to provide support to our wider local communities too.

“We wish the club the best of luck in all the games in the upcoming season.”

Bishopbriggs Crematorium will be one of the most environmentally friendly in the UK, featuring the very latest advanced filtration and abatement technology.
